FUND SAVING AXOLOTLS
The organization receiving the funds is Biological Instate at UNAM University. They are leading the conservation efforts at the lake. The axolotl can’t be preserved in the lake itself but farms or “chinampas” (floating agricultural plot) are being restored and serve as refuge for axolotls. The refuge is a canal separated from the main waterways of Xochimilco by biofilters, which block invasive species from entering while filtering pollution from water. Our objective is to support building and sustaining 1 farm a year.
